                                 Topic:   PELEG 

                                     

“To Eber born two sons: the name of one was Peleg, for his days the earth was divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan”  - {Genesis 10:25}.

           The 1850s was an era of growing division in United states. The failure of the nation’s leader to resolve the issue of slavery created a gap that expanded through a series of events. The publication of Uncle Tom’s Cabin portrayed the cruelty of slavery and stirred the antislavery cause. The Dred Scott decision by Supreme Court stirred up resentment throughout the North.

          When Abraham Lincoln opened his campaign for the Illinois U.S. Senate seat, his opening words were biblical and prophetic: “A house divided against itself cannot stand.’ In 1859, John Brown led a band of followers to attack the federal arsenal at Harper’s Ferry and use the seized weapons to lead a slave uprising. He was taken prisoner and later hanged. Then South Carolina and other states seceded from the Union.

          Later elected president, Lincoln pleaded for unity, but the South turned a deaf ear. Just a month later, guns fired on Fort Sumter and a war began in which more Americans would die than in any other conflict before or since.

          In the beginning, the earth was not divided. People were not separated and unity reigned in all creation. God was one with His people and sin did not split families apart. But after the Flood, as the book of Genesis describes Noah and his sons {Genesis 9:19} and the table of nations, we begin to see separation. “From these the coastland people of the Gentiles were separated into their lands” {10:5}. In Genesis 11, a large separation took place at the Tower of Babel when people were the birth of Peleg: “For in his days the earth was divided” {10:25}. Peleg, whose name means “divided,” symbolizes the results of sin separation from God. But Christ  prayed “ that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in me, and I in You: that they also may be one in Us” {John 17:21}.

 

         O Lord, unite the body of Christ. Bring Your people together again in a                     harmony that will be a witness to the world.

NIMROD

                                 Topic:   NIMROD 

                                     

“The beginning of kingdom was Babel, Erech,  Accad, and  Calneh, in the land of Shinar.” - {Genesis 10:10}.

        Imagine not having of his a city mayor, state governor, or national president. When Nimrod, Noah’s great-grandson was born, the only leaders in existence were the leaders households. Everyone was content to live at the same economic, social, and political status as the neighbors.

        Nimrod changed all that. Described as a “warlike giant” {Syriac Script}, he appears to have been the first man on earth to develop the idea of groups of people following a leader. And, of course, he wanted to be that leader. The Bible calls him a "Mighty hunter". {Genesis 10:9}, and hunting terrifying wild game likely gave him opportunity to be in charge of others, But animals were not all he hunted. The Hebrew word “hunter” suggests “prey,’” and the Bible uses “prey” to describe people being hunted with tyranny, persecution, an oppression. Ancient Jewish literature records that Nimrod” was a hunter of the children of men” {Jerusalem Targum}.

        Nimrod’s thirst for power over his fellow man led him right into rebellion against God. His name comes from the Hebrew word marad, which means, “he rebelled.” “From the foundation of the world none was ever found like Nimrod, powerful in hunting, and in rebellions against the Lord” {Targum of Jonathan ben Uzziel}. Nimrod’s kingdom was the first kingdom on earth, and it was founded on the principle of selfish power.

        When Jesus was born, the results of Nimrod’s kingdom had spread over the earth and cover it in a dark blanket of sin and death. Then Jesus began His own kingdom- a kingdom very different from Nimrod’s. He proclaimed, “My kingdom is not of this world” {John 18:36}. Both Nimrod and Jesus claimed authority. But Nimrod’s kingdom was based on selfish authority that harms others, and Jesus’ kingdom is based on selfless authority that saves others.               

              King Jesus, I choose to be a willing subject of Your eternal                        kingdom today.  

 

SONS OF NOAH

                                Topic:   SONS OF NOAH

“Now the sons of Noah who went out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And Ham was the father of Canaan. These three were the sons of Noah, and from these the whole earth was populated”  - {Genesis 9:18,19}.

         The largest peacetime operation of the U.S. government is the once in -a decade event. In 2010, more than a million census workers were hired to count about 310 million people in around 120 million households. That comes to 1 census cost a staggering $15 billion. Genealogists find the census helpful in studying the descent of families.

        If you could trace your genealogy way back, you would eventually run into the three sons of Noah from whom “the whole earth was populated.” Though all three boys were from the lineage of a righteous man, not all of them followed in the faith footsteps of their father.

        After the flood, Noah become a farmer and planted a vineyard. He made a bad choice one day, becoming drunk and uncovering himself in his tent. Though the Bible gives few details, it appears that Ham’s son might have seen his grandfather and told his father about it. Perhaps they thought it was humorous or made they made fun of the patriarch behind his back.

        When Shem and Japheth heard what was taking place, they took a cloak, walked backward into their father’s tent, and covered him. Their act of respect set them apart from Ham and his son, Canaan. When Noah awoke from his stupor, he discovered what had taken place and spoke prophetically about the descendants of his three sons. While Shem and Japheth’s lineage would be blessed, Ham and Canaan’s offspring would be cursed and become servants of the favored brothers.

       We should not excuse Noah’s poor decision. The Bible is clear about the sinful direction alcohol can take a person. But the story also teaches us the serious consequences of breaking the fifth commandment. God warned, “Cursed is the one who treats his father or his mother with contempt”{Deuteronomy 27:16}

       Dear Jesus, may I  honor my earthly parents as a sign of respect for my heavenly Father.

                             Topic:   NOAH {PART 2}

        "Then the Lord said to Noah. ‘Come into the ark, you
         and all your household, because I have seen
        that you are righteous before me in this generation."  
         - {Genesis 1:1}

 

         Getting onto a boat might save your life, especially if you are a desperate migrant heading for Europe from North Africa. In a single day in 2014, Royal Navy ships plucked 3,500 immigrants from overcrowded boats in the Mediterranean Sea. Among the rescued were pregnant mothers and small children. Many reported harrowing tales that drove them to flee their country. The 557-foot Navy ship, the HMS Bulwark, picked up 700 migrants and immediately gave the starving people bread and water. Human traffickers in Libya often overload flimsy boats. Over three thousand died in 2014.

         Noah and his family were rescued by entering a solid ship, escaping the devastating worldwide flood that destroyed all animal and human life had rejected the warnings from the preacher of righteousness. Just one family was saved.

         Why? The Lord said, “Because I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation. “Noah wasn’t just a great boat builder or desperate migrant sneaking onto a vessel. His character opened the door to passage onto the ark. Noah’s faith, which influenced the lives of his family, provided them with a ticket to safety. His example as a father and husband blessed his entire household.

         When you feel that you are sinking into despair over your responsibilities in the home, remember Noah. Though ridiculed for his faith by the lives of his three sons and their wives. Don’t step into the flimsy boats of popularity or pleasure. They will sink. Only when you live by God’s Word, you are safe in the ark of His hands.

Prayer:

            " O God, give me strength to stand responsibly in my home duties. I ask for wisdom to lead my family today in Your righteous paths." - Amen

                             Topic:   NOAH {PART 1}

        “This is the genealogy of Noah.
         Noah was a just man, perfect in his                                                   generation. Noah walked with God”     
         -  {Genesis 6:9}.

          You might think he was he biggest failure of all evangelists who ever lived. Noah preached for 120 years and didn’t have even one convert {1 Peter 3:20}. But the Bible lists him as one of the great characters of faith in history. This imperfect man was called “just” and “Perfect” because he, like Enoch, “walked with God.”

          Noah was the son of Lamech of the line of Seth. He was an ancestor of Jesus and a hero of faith who built the ark, which saved mankind from total destruction. His name means “rest” or “relief’” which stood in contrast to the violent and corrupt world in which he lived. As the righteous patriarchs began to die off, Noah stood alone as a man who believed God’s words.

          The antediluvians had abundant evidence of God’s of goodness in a world still mostly untouched by sin. These pre-flood giants had heard stories directly from Adam and his kin, but they turned away from their knowledge of God and toward their own pleasures.

           The Lord chose Noah from among all other as the one to accomplish the great work of preparing the world for the coming destruction by water. A single verse captures his most admirable quality: “Thus Noah did ; according to all that God commanded him, so he did “ {Genesis 6:22}. We measure a  favorable outcome by facts, but God estimates success by faith.

            The reason Noah was “perfect in his generations” is that he had unswerving confidence in God’s word in an age of skepticism. His righteousness did not come by his own works, but through faith in the Lord’s word. If the entire world scoffed at your beliefs, would you follow the word of human beings or the word of God?

           

Prayer:

              "Dear Lord, I believe in Your word and will live by Your 
                truth, no matter what the world may say."  - Amen

METHUSELAH

                       TOPIC: METHUSELAH

                  

            “So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and
             sixty-nine years; and he died.” {Genesis 5: 27}.

          The many passengers showed their boarding passes to the agent and stepped onto the plane, scheduled to fly from Virginia to Los Angles. A few minute into the flight, passenger Barbara Olson called her husband and told him that the plane had been hijacked and that the hijackers had knives and box cutters. Her husband informed her that there had been hijackers that morning, but she showed no signs of panic, About twenty minutes later, Flight 77 exploded into the western wall of the Pentagon, killing Barbara and sixty-three other passengers.

         Barbara was an attorney, author, and U.S Representative. As chief investigative counsel for the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee, she uncovered several corruption scandals in the political word in which she worked. Barbara’s eyewitness account of the hijacking of American Airlines Flight 77 provided important information about the events of September 11, 2001. She died the very day of one of the greatest results of corruption she warned against,. She was a faithful witness.

         Methuselah was the oldest man who ever lived on this earth. Enoch, who “walked with God” {Genesis 5:22} and was taken to heaven before death, was his father, Noah, who also walked with God and found grace on His sight, was his grandson. Methuselah listened to the preaching of his grandson and helped build the ark. He spent his lifetime of 969 years uncovering corruption scandals in the world in which he lived and warning the world of a coming flood.

         Methuselah’s consistent, faithful witness for God provided important information about who God is and about His plan to save people from sin and eternal death. In his 969^th years, the rain of judgment began to fall. He died the very year of the event resulting from the corruption he warned against. He was a faithful witness.

 

Prayer: 

         "Lord, may I be a consistent, faithful witness for You in my very corrupt                world."   - Amen

ENOCH {2}

                               TOPIC: ENOCH (Part 2) 

“Now Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about these men also, saying, behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of His saints’ “{Jude 1:14}.

   Whistleblowers are those who expose activity that is illegal or dishonest. It might be over a violation of company policy or the law and could include anything from fraud and corruption to threats to the public. Often they face strong retaliation for “telling” on the organization. Even though laws exist in many countries to protect whistleblowers, they are often attacked by the group they have accused.

     Enoch was a whistleblowers. The book of Jude indicates that he prophesied about the coming judgment “to convict all who are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him” {Jude 1:15}.

     Four times in one verse the writer uses the word “ungodly” to describe those who will face the judgment, We sometimes picture Enoch, who walked with God, as a hermit who lived mostly in isolation. But this fearless Bible character was a preacher of righteousness like Noah. He boldly brought attention to abuses by the wicked against God and fellow human beings.

     Enoch was not a lowly “snitch.” He didn’t poke at trivial issues or try to garner attention to himself. As any prophet of God, he spoke fearlessly against sin, but he also appealed for his hearers to turn back to the Lord. He bravely swung the sword of truth, which cuts deep to remove sin and thereby save the sinner.

    We can be sure, as do all who live godly lives, that Enoch was ridiculed. The evil generation that lived just before the destruction of the world by water turned away from God. It’s the same today. Millions scoff at righteous whistleblowers, but some will listen.
         We need more people like Enoch in our day.

                       TOPIC: ENOCH (Part 1)

                                   

           “Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot methuselah.
            After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years,
            and had sons and daughter”  - {Genesis 5:21,22}.

               Walking is on the move in America. 

     Growing numbers are now including walking as part of a physically active lifestyle, and about 50 percent of people in United States currently get enough aerobic activity to improve their health. Inactive adults are at greater risk for heart disease, stroke type-2 diabetes, depression, and cancer. Some researchers believe every minute of walking can extend your life by two minutes.

      Enoch understood the value of walking, but it was much more than a chance to stretch his legs. Enoch walked with God. This seventh descendant of Adam pursued a closer communion with his Creator daily. After the birth of his first son, Methuselah, the focus of this god-fearing Bible figure to connect with heaven become even more intense.

    As an ancestor of the coming Messiah, Enoch hungered to know the Lord so much that the growing wickedness on the earth repulsed him. The man, whose name means “dedicated,” became so attuned in his walk with the Creator that one day he walked straight through the gates of heaven. “And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.” {Genesis 5:24}.

    In world destined for death because of sin, It was a sign of hope among the remaining godly antediluvians to know that there was life beyond the grave. The face of the Lord was not against all humanity but was reaching out a welcoming hand. Enoch’s translation to heaven encouraged others to pursue a deeper walk with God, an exercise with eternal benefits.

       Enoch is the oldest human being who ever lived and continues to live without seeing death. On this earth he lived 365 years. Why not make a commitment to walk 365 days with God. He's ready and waiting to join you.

Prayer:      

        "Lord of heaven and earth, may today mark the new
         beginning of a closer walk with You that extends
         throughout the entire year---and in eternity."

 

SETH

                         TOPIC:    SETH

“Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, for God appointed another seed for me instead of appointed Abel, whom Cain killed.”       -  {Genesis 4:25}.

    Nobody really likes to be substitute. It is nice to be the original -the first, the authentic. Seth was the third son of Adam and Eve, and in Hebrew his name can mean “appointed” or substitute.” God blessed the pained hearts of Abel’s Parents with another son.

     But Seth was much more than compensation. He was a genuine follower of God. After Genesis lists the unrighteous descendants of Cain, It turns to list the line of Adam’s new sons, one of whom was “in his own likeness, after his image” {Genesis 5:3}. Though Seth inherited the sinful nature of Adam, he was more like his father in stature and character than Cain. It was through the Seth that a godly lineage was kept alive.

        While no one really enjoys being a stand-in, there is a time when a substitute can save your life. Because of Adam’s sin, we are all destined to die. “For as in Adam all die…” says the apostle Paul {1 Corinthians 15:22}. But he continues, “Even so in Christ all shall be made alive.” We who deserve death, are given the opportunity to accept Jesus as our Substitute. He offered to die in our place so that the wage we’ve earned was placed on Him instead.

       Jesus ‘death on Calvary is an atoning sacrifice that brings eternal life back to us.
    “He made Him who knew no sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” {2 Corinthians 5:2}.

       Do you long to be restored to the image of your heavenly Father?
      You can,  if you accept the Substitute.

Prayer: 

     “Dear Jesus, I accept You as my replacement. Thank you for dying in my stead so that I might Someday walk in the earth made new.”     - Amen

ABEL

                       TOPIC:    ABEL  

 

      “By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through           which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts;         and through It he is being dead still speaks.” {Hebrews 11.4}

 

    Abel was a shepherd. His Hebrew name means “breath” or “vapor” and well describes his brief. As the second son of Adam, he was faithful worshiper of God. He understood the significance of the sacrificial system instituted when his father and mother sinned and were cast from Eden.

           When Abel brought “the firstborn of his flick” {Genesis 4:4}, he was acknowledging his trust in the perfect Lamb of God who would one day be slain for sin. He knew his brother’s offering of fruit was a rebellious declaration against God. Cain exalted his own efforts at righteousness while Abel humbled himself as a sinner who needed a Savior.

        Cain and Abel depict the great conflict between Satan and Christ. The son of God, who also identified Himself as the Son of man, is hated by the devil. The story of the first murder signals the ultimate murder, when the rage of Satan drove evil men to crucify Jesus. The blood of Abel “still speaks” to us because he was a shadow of Christ.

          Abel’s more excellent sacrifice” pointed to Christ, the perfect offering for sin. Jesus was ‘a lamb without blemish and without spot’ {1 Peter 1:19}. The lamb slain by Abel represented the coming “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” {John 1:29}. Abel was not made perfect through his own work. He “was righteous” through the sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary.

           So far as we know, Abel sleeps in the grave awaiting the resurrection shout of the Life-giver. Until then, this Bible character’s life “still speaks” to us.

CAIN

                                 Topic:     CAIN

         " The Cain went out from the presence of the Lord and dwelt in the land of               Nod on the east of Eden." {Genesis 4:16}

  Cain had blood on his hands. After refusing to bring a lamb for an offering, after rebuffing his younger brother's pleading, and after dismissing God's call to his heart, the eldest son of Adam murdered his own brother.

      Perhaps the normal path this story would take would be that Cain would immediately receive the consequences of his abominable sin and suffer capital punishment. Jewish tradition states that Cain used a stone to kill his younger brother. 

      Moses' laws would later declare, "if he strikes him with a stone in the hand, by which one could die, and he does die, he is a murderer; the murderer shall surely be put to death" {Numbers 35:17}.

      But Genesis tells a different story, one filled with grace. Even after the chances given to his angry killer, God gave Cain an opportunity to repent. Not only did the Lord approach the guilty man to discuss what he had done God allowed him to live on, even if as a fugitive. 

     And when Cain complained that others would seek to kill him, the Lord compassionately stated, "Whoever kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold" {Genesis 4:15}.

      God bent over backward to reach this lost son of Adam. Over and over, the first murderer was given occasion to turn it all around. Despite this, Cain turned his back on God and "went out from the presence of the Lord."

       When you are caught in sin, which way will you turn?

                         beyond comprehension. May such love melt

                         my heart and keep me turned toward you. "   - Amen

                Topic: EVE ( First Woman created by God)

                        

"When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruits and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate."   {Genesis 3:6}

 

God had warned them. An enemy lurked in their midst. The Lord told Adam and Eve not to eat from the tree of the knowledge good and evil. To do so would signal they were no longer loyal to their creator. Satan would use his most deceptive abilities to lure and tempt the couple to disobey God.

 Unfortunately, Eve believed a lie. More important, she disbelieved the truth. God told her that if she ate from the tree, she would die. Satan told her, "You will not surly die."{genesis 3:4}. Whom should she trust? There's no question that the devil tricked her. But in the end, Eve and Adam chose to turn from the Lord's command  and follow the enemy. 

Some suggest that this was unfair and that we cannot blame Eve or Adam for the introduction of sin into our world. The story of the fall  has been misused, they say, to treat woman as inferior. being. Eve simply "introduced" a new form of knowledge into the world. It's just not politically correct to lay any blame at her feet. 

 The truth is that both Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. Both our first parents brought sin and its deadly consequences to human race. Thus, the temptation and fall do not define Eve as inferior. If we were to play the blame game, we might argue that while Eve was tricked with the crafty deception of a lying mastermind , Adam disobeyed deliberately. 

However, Eve's decision shows us that believing Satan's lie involves more than being hoodwinked. In the end, biting forbidden fruit is saying no to God and yes to the devil. 

Prayer: 

    " Lord Jesus, may every decision I make today be a yes to You and a no to the enemy of my soul."  - Amen

                 Topic: EVE ( First Woman created by God)  

"The Lord God said , 'It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him" {Genesis 2:18}

Something was amiss. Seven times God had pronounced the creation "good." But a startling change comes in Genesis 2:18. "God said, ,it is not good that man should be alone". The negative terminology adds an exclamation point to the incompleteness of Adam without a companion.

      So God administered the first anesthesia in our world and "caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam" {verse 21}. Than the Lord took one of Adam's ribs and from it formed a woman. As a perfect matchmaker, God "brought her to the man"  {verse 22}. The Bible dosen't say how their love blossomed, but we do know that they were joined in holy wedding service presided over by their Creator. 

   

      Many cultures admire the strength and self-sufficiency of mavericks. Perhaps Hollywood has shaped our veneration of the "lone ranger". There is certainly a place for self-governing. We must each make our own choices in life. But this is only half of the picture.

    God's plan was that no man or woman be an island. Humans were created as social creature. The need for community and conversation is built into the fabric of our being. We all need someone to walk beside us, to listen to and to care for. Food nurtures our bodies, but friendships nurture our soul. 

   Eve came from Adam. She was, in his words, "bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh" {verse 23}. Yet she was different, and her unique qualities complemented his. Together, this interdependent couple represented the image of God. 

Prayer: 

            " God of creation, Thank you for the gift of 

       marriage, a sacred union built on an affectionate 

       bond that expresses Your likeness " -  Amen

" Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. " {Genesis 2:15 }

👉 Do you enjoy working outside? Some people love being occupied in the yard, mowing the lawn, trimming trees, and helping with the flowerbeds. It can be invigorating to be in the fresh air and put your hands and mind to a task. It feels good to finish stacking up a cord of firewood or painting a fence.

Did you know that before sin broke up our planet. God created Adam to work outside? You might think that in a perfect world, people would lounge around all day on Adirondack chairs sipping lemonade. But from the start, it was the Creator's plan that humans work in the outdoors. The home of our first parents was not a palace, but a garden.

Genesis 2:15 says God put Adam in the garden of Eden "to tend and keep it." other version used the words " to dress it and to keep it." what does this mean? Adam was required to use physical labor to keep the garden in a beautiful state. Yes -thorns later came and made his job more difficult. But work was originally to be blessing - and it still can be. 

Some Bible commentators say that "to keep" in Hebrew can also mean to guard, watch, or preserve. Adam certainly didn't need to worry about wild animals tearing his vegetable garden to pieces. But being occupied with maintaining his garden home did help protect him from an intruder who came guised as a serpent. 

Adam's responsibility shows us that a godly character comes through honest labor. We build both muscle and morals when we roll up our sleeves and toil out in nature. Do you hear your garden calling to you ?

"Heavenly Father, thank you for creating the outdoors in which to labor and enjoy the work of my hands. "

                Topic: ADAM ( First Man created by God) 

Verse : "The lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man become a living being" {Genesis 2:7}


- Many have come to believe that human beings evolved not just from lower life forms, such as amoebas but from the most basic element of geologic dust. You might be surprised to discover that even the bible says mankind originally came from dirt. yet there is one significant diversion we take from our evolutionary friends. It involves a crucial player in the process :God.

      unlike birds, mammals, or insects, the bible sets apart the creation of people with something like a flashing neon light; "Than God said , 'Let us make man  in our image, according to our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creep on the earth.' So God created man in his own image; male and female He created them"{Genesis 1:26, 27}.

         We aren't left to wonder about our origins when we take the creation of Adam, the first human being, at face value. Our genealogy does not trace bake to a turtle or tadpole. The bible traces our family tree bake to Adam, who is called a "son of God" {Luke 3:38}.

When God breath into him the breath of life, Adam did not grovel around on the earth, but stood upright in perfect symmetry and glowing with health. His flawless mind and body were matched by strong and noble character. Adam's original design revealed the faultless attributes of his Creator.

      you were created in the likeness of a holy and God. Do you need to shake off some dust and stand tall?
